Bootle based marine safety firm International Safety Products (ISP) has secured a new partnership with one of the world's leading manufacturers of marine communication devices.

Hawthorne Road firm ISP has been named the sole UK distribution partner for communications and safety at sea specialist Ocean Signal.

This deal will see ISP distributing the entire range of the Margate based firm's handheld communication devices used in emergency situations at sea.

It includes the smallest personal locator beacon in the world - Ocean Signal's rescueME PLB1 - which was launched this week at the London Boat Show.

Other products boosting ISP's portfolio include Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRBs), Search and Rescue Transponders (SART) and hand portable radiotelephones.

ISP Sales Director Geoff Billington said the move will help to position ISP as one of the premier marine safety brands in the world.

"This range of products provide commercial shipping, fishing and recreational users with the confidence they need to be safe at sea." said Mr Billington "They offer exceptional value, meeting or exceeding international technical and safety standards. Above all they provide users with the confidence to know it will work to, and beyond, their expectations when it is most needed.

"It is hugely encouraging to be working with Ocean Signal - an experienced, customer focussed and progressive firm with a very similar outlook to ourselves. There is a strong demand for its pioneering products. It feels like a natural fit amongst our broader range of marine safety equipment and one which we believe will drive sales throughout 2013 and beyond."

ISP is the largest manufacturer of inflatable marine life jackets in the world producing more than 150,000 lifejackets a year. The firm also delivers marine survival equipment, including specialist tactical vests and waistcoats, Intrepid immersion suits and Duarry Challenger inflatable liferafts.

It was bought in 2008 by Mr Billington and Managing Director John Rogers with backing from the Merseyside Special Investment Fund (MSIF).

Managing Director of Ocean Signal Alan Wrigley said: "We are delighted to announce the partnership with ISP to distribute Ocean Signal's products in the UK," he said. "As one of the world's leading manufacturers of marine life jackets and providers of marine safety equipment, they have the knowledge and experience of the industry to strengthen our position in the UK market. They also have the contacts and understanding in the commercial sector to increase our presence in this area.
